A Hap for Harriet by Kate Davies
This hap shawl is knit sideways, from end to end. The edging is worked together with the garter stitch body, and a long, shallow shape is achieved by working increases (or decreases) prior to the edging. The dimensions of the hap are flexible, and the shaping allows it to be worn around the neck, as a shoulder or body covering,.
It can even be worn tied behind the back in the tradition of old Shetland Hap shawls, which made it easier to have free use of the arms while working. They were even used to swaddle a baby. Size US 3 - 3.25 mm recommended, but gauge is not important for this type of project.
Knit this shawl with our beautiful silk and wool lace weight yarn by Zephyr in your choice of colors. Our kit contains the pattern, which both charted and written instructions, and enough yarn for your project with a generous surplus.
